Masterclass: Color grading

Today we had a master class on colour grading in after effects as well as a basics/intro to maya. i found the colour grading really helpful and i find it can make the composition more cinematic by adding imperfections as would be in a live action filmed by a camera.

i also did a bit more work on the tree model

Tree

On the 29th may i had a go at modelling the tree trying to think of our reference in monster box how the shapes although organic and windy were quite blocky, simple and fun.
I also made minor adjustments to the face of the mother model, softening the curve under her nose to contrast the bridge of her nose.

TV Show

Today i worked on the television show Tubbs will be watching at the start of the film. i wanted to make it campy and traditional so that it will be easily identified that its a typical superhero show. i saturated a lot of the colors and limited the movement [mainly due to time constraints but also so that it wouldn't deter from the animation happening in the real world]. I wanted to have the hero save the cat from the tree so that it could foreshadow Tubbs decision later in the film.

Cat Edits

Today i had a play around with the cat model shaping the head and playing with the proportions. i think its nearly there, and needs only a few more tweaks.

Feedback 2

Today we got more work done with the cat and i collaborated with esther to tweak it some more. i think we are quite close to getting the model finalised. i worked on the hands of the mother and tried putting it into the look frame. I had a look at the environment James was working on and we worked together on stylising it together, his model is looking fantastic.
I hope to make some final tweaks to the model of the mother so i can start texturing as soon as possible, and the riggers can start rigging her up.

Feedback

Today we got some feedback regarding the designs for he characters which i found to be really helpful. from what i gathered, overall we focused a lot on getting the characters to look correct and they turned out awesome, and i think stylising them now to make them even better is a good direction to go in. Considering things like shape language proportions and rhythm of shapes between the characters we have good direction for our already solid foundations [the models we already worked on].

Modelling in Maya

Today i worked some more on the mother model to continue to refine her shape to keep interesting and retain the look and feel from the model sheet i drew. i op e to get on to texture her with all the required maps to get her looking amazing. We had a really constructive meeting to see where everyone is at and to give timetable for things like the characters modelling and texturing as well as environment models. after the meeting communication between the group felt a lot easier and everyone got focused on their delegated tasks.

Submission 01 Deadline

Today i worked on the look frame some more and got some feedback on the model for the mother. we got a lecture on workflow relating on how gamma is shown in different programs. we also were taught about displacement maps [i think] where we show different layers of texture maps to give different depths for skin and flesh. i also worked on the remaining paperwork and assets for the first submission for the group project.

Mudbox/Contract

Today i continued working on the mother in mudbox. i sculpted and painted her hair some more to add some more appeal. i also sculpted the bow to add some dimension. I wrote up the studio procedures conrtact for the group to sign and started looking at some festivals. i decided to work a bit with the look frame [refining the textures] to help accommodate the picture frame and sofa which James modelled. I will have them unwrapped over the weekend so they can get textured on monday.

Mudbox

after a review of where my texturing was at i had to re-assess how to implement what i know in 2d to texturing in 3d. Afterwards i got a quick crash course in mudbox, and had a go at sculpting. Sean gave me a rundown of the process and i think its really interesting how 3d artist utilise the software to do what they do. make awesome stuff.

Tuesday Submission

I had a go at texturing the mother today, i made a thread pattern for her dress which i am pretty happy about. I'm learning how texturing works and find the skillset required quite interesting. I look forward to trying to achieve really good textures.

Today I started to work on the documents we need for the submission on the 14th of april next week.
I quickly put together some reference and design concepts for the style guide.

Exterior rear view

Today i mocked up the rear view so the modelers have some reference when it comes to making the house. im quite happy with how its looking, apart from the roof situation which we will address when it comes to modelling it. all departments are pretty on to it today for the most part and i am happy with the progress we are making as a group despite software hardware issues.
next on my agenda would be either texturing the unwrapped look frame [the kitchen] or working on some design for props that need to be made like shoes or coats for the hallway or some toys and yard items to litter around the house.
